CD-ROM Drive Upgrade

All new computers built today come with a CD-ROM drive. Software programs and other data usually come on a CD-ROM. So it’s a good idea to have one. Besides, they’re very inexpensive. Your CD writer can be internal or external. An internal CD drive is better in a desktop PC. But it needs to be installed. An external CD-Writer is better if you need to be more mobile. You can just plug it in. You can check out TigerDirectfor deals on CD ROM drives.

CD/RW:These can write data to a writable CD-ROM drive and write/erase/re-write to a re-writable CD-ROM disk. Most of today’s new computers will come with this type of CD-ROM in them instead of a 3.5” floppy drive.

DVD Writer Upgrade

DVD/RW: A burnable DVD ROM disk that can hold around 4 Gb (gigabit) of data for single layer or around 8 Gb for dual layer. New technology is out for the dual layer/double sided disk allowing around 16 Gb of data. You can store large files on each DVD as well as movies. When upgrading, you need to find a DVD writer that’s compatible with most disks. As with a CD writer, a DVD writer can be either internal or external. Again, it is less expensive when internal but it needs to be installed. The external version is best when you need it to be portable. You can check out TigerDirect for deals on DVD drives.

DVD-CD/RW: Instead of having multiple drives in your computer for each task you can install a single drive that will burn to both CD and DVD formats.
